Established in 1936, the Eastbourne School of English is a non-profit-making educational trust with a strong commitment to high English teaching standards and excellent student services. This English language school is located in Eastbourne town centre, close to the elegant seafront. Facilities in our modernised Victorian buildings include a spacious student lounge, multimedia learning centre with, lively cafe, free wi-fi internet access and beautiful gardens.

We first ran this programme in the 1980s. Many students return year after year to improve their English, enjoy the beautiful Sussex countryside and meet up with old friends. We run three-week courses in May, June and September, also a two-week course in August. See dates and fees for course dates. You study English in multinational groups each morning, Monday to Friday. In the afternoons and weekends there is an extensive programme of visits, activities and excursions. On our Fifty Plus course we aim: to build your confidence in speaking English to help you improve your understanding of spoken English to show you the beautiful South East of Britain to introduce you to British people and people from other countries and to help you find out more about their customs and cultures The atmosphere in our classes is relaxed and friendly. We test you on the first day and place you in a suitable class. The typical class size is 8 – 10 participants, maximum 12 participants. There are normally 20 – 30 students on each course. All our families have a real interest in meeting and looking after students and will give you a memorable and enjoyable experience. Tell us about any special requests when you book your homestay accommodation and we will do our best to find the perfect host family for you. Our homestay service includes single or shared room, breakfast and evening meal, with lunch in addition at weekends. Our Accommodation Officer is there to help you with any questions you may have about living in an English home. Eastbourne is a medium-sized town, so all students are able to walk to school from their host family accommodation. Our full-time Accommodation Officer personally inspects all host families. Families are revisited every two years to check that standards are being maintained. All host families sign a contract with us. This specifies in detail the service they have agreed to offer our students. Homestay accommodation – more details The service includes room, breakfast and evening meal, with lunch at weekends. The room will be of a reasonable size, decorated and furnished to a good standard, well heated or ventilated (according to the season of the year). You will have a table or desk and lamp for study. You can take a daily bath or shower. The family will do a reasonable amount of light washing for you. The family will eat evening meals with you. Sheets and towels are changed weekly. We never place two students with the same first language in the same family unless by special request. The host family will take into account specific requests about food. Please note that during the summer, younger students may be asked to share a room with another student of a different nationality. Accommodation is booked for full weeks of seven days per week. Students normally arrive on Sunday and leave on Saturday. Change and cancellation of accommodation If you are unhappy with your accommodation for any reason, we will move you as soon as we can. If you want to leave the accommodation, you must tell us one week before you want to leave.

Placement Fee: €30.02 In July and August we can offer residential accommodation at the superb University of Brighton Residences in the Meads area of Eastbourne. See the dates and fees page for more details of availability and costs. These modern residences were built in 2005 to a very high standard. The accommodation is arranged in groups of 6-8 single rooms with a shared kitchen. Every room is en-suite with its own bathroom. Each spacious single room has single bed, wardrobe, large desk, drawers, full length mirror, bathroom with shower. The University provides clean bed linen, bath towel and hand towel every week. The kitchen is shared with up to seven other students and is fully equipped with cooker, refrigerator, microwave, dining table and chairs, TV. All cooking equipment is provided. A 24-hour security service is provided by the University. The attractive on-campus Sprinters Restaurant offers students breakfast at additional cost. Key features Accommodation is booked from Sunday before the course starts until Saturday after the course finishes. The service is provided by the University of Brighton in the Meads area of Eastbourne. The service includes single room with private bathroom, shared cooking facilities in fully equipped kitchen.
